My aims for this Paper.

In this paper I show how war represents one aspect of the three great mutations to afflict mankind during this century. I also develop the mechanisms of dating Nostradamus' Prophecies.

Along the way I also reveal the remarkable content in the anagrams of some verses such as 'Budapests governmental factions' found in C7 Q19.
In my paper on the Great Mutations I identified that the mutative events involved the advance of scientific knowledge into realms unimaginable in Nostradamus' era.

So far the dating mechanisms that I have shown have relied on Nostradamus' inclusion of star and planet names into his visible or hidden text but this is not the only means by which he discloses the dates.

Although the hidden anagrams relating to wars have much about them that  seems inexplicable, if not impossible, they consistently occur while obeying a set of very simple but demanding rules of analysis. My analysis gains credibility through the disciplined, invariant use of the rules and the structured nature of the anagrams that are found when they are used.

My book titled Nostradamus Unlocked provides material showing how this theme interconnects with Nostradamus other story lines.

The Mutations of War

I have tried to give a rational psychological base to Nostradamus' work and one result of this is that I believe it would have been contradictory for him to have seen the future at the same time as holding a belief in astrology or the-end-of-the world as foretold in old-time religious tales. However I don't think there is a contradiction because he didn't have these views; instead at the deeper level his writings seem based in science.

This is illustrated in the case of the dating mechanism using planet positions and names. It is a common misperception to believe that if Nostradamus uses placement of the planets along the zodiac then his work is meant to be astrological.

The locations of planets and stars were as precisely predictable then as they are now. This is a case of a foreknowable event that is based on science and that branch of science is astronomy. In its usage it may be used to indicate the timing of events that are good, bad or indifferent but it still doesn't automatically make it astrological. It is only if the nature of the event occurring on that date is claimed to be a result of the planetary positions that it becomes astrology. If used to mark an occasion on a calendar it can be science, but if such marks are meant to foretell the future its basis is occult. However the methods I have shown so far only show Nostradamus using astronomy as a marker for his calendar system.

Nostradamus interest in the great mutations likewise doesn't make him unscientific. Using human wit man has increasingly placed himself in a position where he can accurately foretell many things that will happen in the future. Foreknowledge of the date of Halley's-comet's return is one such example. The fate of our sun is another. We know one day it will explode but those who speak this truth are not speaking from occult belief but from a scientist's understanding of universal evolution.

My focus in this section will be on a consistent thread in the great mutations which involves war and in so doing the same scrutiny on its science versus occult origin needs to be applied. I have argued that the motivation behind Nostradamus' Prophecies was to put down in writing that which has no historical equivalent; that is new events that man has never previously faced. As I have stated before this view of Nostradamus' intent is found in his own words, in this case.

[My writings] by dark and cryptic sentences, tell of the causes of the future mutation of mankind, especially the most urgent ones.
...Nostradamus 1555 in the beginning of his Preface to his prophecies.

However in order for the work to remain pertinent through many centuries Nostradamus included specific events that could only be known after they occurred or in situations where they could not alter the future.

Strange Weapons

There can be no doub t that Nostradamus wrote about events that interested him but their story was a means to an end which was to show those aspects of the future which would have far-reaching unstoppable consequences.

I have argued in other papers that it is technologic change that is at the core of his prophecies especially those where immutable human self-interest presents a danger to mankind. And these conflicts over what is essentially unchangeable are the center-point of Nostradamus' presentations on war rather than the battles, their leaders and the victories or defeats.

His theme is inevitably about the technology of weapons but new weapons not ones that are just bigger or more powerful versions of those already known in the sixteenth century; they are based in revolutionary chemical, biological and atomic physics as typified over the last century.

And his theme for the protagonists is the tide of history that washes through the institutions of man making these weapons far more powerful than ever envisaged by their makers. This is clearly indicated in Quatrain 19 Centuries VII in both the visible and the anagrammatic text.

 C7 Q19

The fort at Nicea will not engage in combat,
it will be overcome by shining metal.
This deed will be debated for a long time,
strange and fearful for the citizens.

Le fort Nicene ne Sera combatu
Vaincu Sera par rutilant metal
Son faict Sera vn long temps de batu
Aux citadins eStrange eSpouuantal.

It is clear the encounter described in this verse is won and lost not through battles between men but purely by the use of a weapon. This is one of the great changes in the nature of war that has taken place since Nostradamus' time since people can be killed and places destroyed from an incredibly vast distance without the need of actual engagement with the enemy. In this case Nostradamus' words imply a form of chemical warfare and the nature of the chemical can be found in the hidden text but it also carries the institutional basis that defines the specificity of the event.

The third line has a powerful set of anagrams that are amongst the hardest to dismiss as a product of chance alone. Below I show how the letters in the original line can form a series of anagrams by placing the blanks between words in new places and treating the newly grouped letters as anagrams.

Son faict Sera vn long temps de batu
S onfaictS era vn long tem psdebatu
onfaictS era vn long tem
psdebatuS
factions era vn long tem
Budapests

BUDAPEST'S GOVERNMENTAL FACTIONS

Centuries 7 quatrein 19These anagrams are not frequently found in Nostradamus' Prophecies and 'factions' is the only one to occur in any other verse (two others). These three are adjacent anagrams and use every letter of the line. The words are distinctive and yet their existence is far from obvious by reading the original text. Each word makes sense and has a logical fit in the group that is formed as each can be seen as political in nature. But what is also true is that they add a valid context to the visible message which talks of a long debate over an act of war.

The last line also has a sequence of adjacent anagrams which say Actinides strange weapons  (citadinse Strange eSpouuan). It could also be seen as saying Actinides generates axtual weapons. This is once again a very apt hidden reference adding considerable detail to the text and supporting the theme I have proposed. The actinides are the elements with atomic number from 89 to 103 all of which are radioactive. This series includes Uranium, Thorium and Plutonium and these are silvery-white (shining) metals which is in keeping with the description in Nostradamus' text.

There is more hidden within this verse that suggests that in the instance under discussion there is a genetic mutation of an infectious agent. (line 1 mutable.infector, L.2. And the first line with its reference to the Nicene fort provides a recognizable cipher that suggests this war is about the fundamental differences in the beliefs of the Christian religions. We therefore have the strong possibility that either one Christian sect annihilates another using nuclear materials or the Christian sects combine to annihilate believers in other religions (see C4 Q43 given below for a verse by Nostradamus that says these things).

It is clear that any discussion of the theme of war in Nostradamus' Prophecies must encompass the ideas found in this verse and it will be my aim to build upon the framework presented above in the remainder of this series.

On the Inevitable

In earlier articles I have touched on the constraints of any ability to see the future and what would be relevant to any person who could see into the far-distant future. These need expansion as I present the verses on War and this is my aim in this section.

Actinide based weapons meet my criteria of relevance but they also fulfill the requirement of being inevitable. Weapons are a product of technology and no technological advance has ever been successfully repressed or forever constrained in its use. Once found each invention has been exploited by both those with noble and ignoble intents so we can know with certainty that nuclear based-weapons will continue to be used and with time they will inevitably become the tools of greater rogues than those who already possess such arms.

There is no peace treaty or accord that will protect us eternally from their use. There will be no defense that offsets their potential harm. It is inevitable that one day the earth will be blighted by the scourge of nuclear war. The seeds of fulfillment lie in the nature of men and women and their institutions; whether the fruit of bitter, sober, deluded, gifted, lazy, indifferent or power-hungry men and women their paths and the neglect of others spawns conflict. War is the harsh reality, the inevitability, of short-lived aspirations and the impotence-rendering sum of countless institutional egos.

And Nostradamus' interest as well as mine is set by these inevitabilities since it guides what can be uncovered about what is to come. We can know the inevitable but not the minutiae. And such knowledge can be based in sound-science without occultism or astrology for much is fully knowable based on the outcomes and patterns of evolution. But it requires that we see man and his inventions as part of nature, a passing product of the evolution of the universe and life. And it is essential that we don't fall for the fallacious belief, as many do, that mankind is above other living things; that our intellect will see us through. Yes, man is as strongly protected as any snail, perhaps as omnipresent as the dinosaurs and he is able to control nature better than any colony of ants but each and every individual and every species is sub ject to the feral call that nature inevitably makes.

I present these views as I believe that Nostradamus is greatly misunderstood and that rather than his work being one of mysticism it is a disclosure of what it is possible to foresee in respect to the future. I think much of Nostradamus' writing is based on a scientific understanding of nature but some part of his prophecies resides in human abilities that are as yet little understood.  His science comes from history and an understanding of the human condition. But the result is he sees the nature and the time only of those things that are inevitable. His recognition of these aspects can be seen in those parts of his prefaces to his writings where he describes his processes.

"And if in the event that the Prophet has the perfect light of prophecy in him he manifestly appears to be divinely chosen ( as humanly possible for it to be so since the effects of future prediction extend afar)".
Nostradamus: 3rd page o
f his Preface to Cesar, 1555.

The next reference detaches his prophetic quatrains from the ramblings in the Epistle which are meant to serve another purpose but at the same time it points out that they relate solely to that which is inevitable.

'Furthermore, the chronology of time which follows conforms very little, if at all, with that which has already been set forth. Yet it was determined by astronomy and other sources including the Holy Scriptures and it cannot fail to happen. Nostradamus: at the end of his Epistle to Henry, 1558.

The next quote states clearly that it isn't about the infinite variations of fate that determine who lives or dies, what thrives or perishes, what comes or goes but concerns happenings that are irrevocably set through the agencies of the universe.

'I have mixed therewith no divination from fate; all from God and nature.'
Nostradamus: early in his Epistle to Henry, 1558

With these guidelines as to his intent I can now proceed to identify Nostradamus' observations on the impact of wars that are yet to happen.

Nostradamus on the art of Prophecy

No matter how much is uncovered about Nostradamus' work it will never fully meet popular expectations. Popular interest in Nostradamus' Prophecies mainly resides in whether what he wrote applies to the here and now, yet Nostradamus cannot tell you this in a manner that is helpful. This is an inevitable result of any ability to see the future.

Although the process is unknown there is nothing at the current time that makes it impossible for us to believe that some living things can see into the future. There are, however, principles that would have to hold if such a skill was held by anyone in the past, present or future. The over-riding principle is this: The detail knowable about the future is diminished by the extent the event is changeable or exploitable.

In other words if it can be changed or exploited no one will ever have enough knowledge to do so. A prediction that can be made not to happen fails to be a prediction. Another conclusion from this is there can never be a complete proof that Nostradamus predicted a single event in his writings since any supposed truth can only be seen after the event at which time it is more easily discounted. If there is proof it can only emerge from the futuristic-nature of his writings not its prophetic content.

Yet it would be misleading of me to imply there is no detail in Nostradamus' work for I have already shown otherwise. But in each case the detail is locked into a great mutation arising from the unswerving laws of the evolution of the universe. Quatrain 55, Centuries IX illustrates these points

C9 Q55: Salafid Islamists create a new entity that thrives on Western disunion.

The horrible war which is being prepared in the West
The following year will come the pestilence
So horribly strong that young, old nor beast
Blood, fire Mercury, Mars, Jupiter in France.

L'horrible guerre qu'en l'occident s'apreSte
L'an enSuiuant viendra la peStilence
Si fort horrible que jeune vieulx ne beSte
Sang feu Mercure Mars Jupiter en France.

Some verses disclose little detail in their text and reserve their best messages for that which lies underneath. However in many of the war-verses the greatest detail lies in the surface message and little of value is added via its anagrams. This one has anagrams for Benelux(L.3 ), the Juras(L.4 ) and Palestine (L.2 ) while its visible text talks of war followed by a blood destroying pestilence that begins with fire in France . Its identification of the Jura Mountains in the anagrams together with the fire and pestilence tie it into the events expected in Geneva in the year 2065 (see Geneva 2065 ) but add little else of value.

Any value to be drawn from the above verse comes from its connections to other verses since by their interwoven tales we can know that in the year 2066 a great illness of the blood begins in North-Western Europe .

I am not alone in my appreciation of the principles and limitations I have outlined above since it can be shown that Nostradamus stated the same things in his own words and the verse I have used fits well into his scheme.

"For the incomprehensible secrets of God and their efficient virtue depends on the long expansion of natural knowledge, deriving their origin from free will. They bring about the appearance of causes which of themselves could not attract enough attention to be known, neither by human augury, nor by any other hidden knowledge or virtue comprised under the concavity of heaven, even from the present fact of all eternity, which comes in itself to embrace all time. But through some indivisible eternity and by means of Hiraclienne agitation the causes are made known alongside the celestial movement.

I do not say, my son, that the knowledge of this matter cannot impress itself upon your feeble brain, nor do I say that very distant future causes are not knowable by a reasoning creature. If they are simply the creation of a goodly creature's intellectual soul out of current events, then they are not too greatly hidden from him nor, on the other hand can they be said to be revealed at all.

But the perfect causes cannot be acquired without divine inspiration since all prophetic inspiration receives its prime motivating force from God the Creator, then from happiness and nature. Wherefore causes that are indifferent are produced indifferently the presage only partly comes true where it has been predicted. Because where human understanding is created intellectually it cannot see hidden things except by the voice coming from limbo via the thin flame, showing in what direction part of the future causes will be inclined. "
Nostradamus' Preface to his Prophecies, 1555

Nostradamus' interest in aspects of modern warfare.

In the previous analyses I have stated that Nostradamus' work on war is best found in the visible text and that his interest in war is in those weapons of mass devastation which had no parallel in his own day. There are a series of well-known verses by Nostradamus that have always been linked to war in the 20th century and beyond. It is worthwhile my presenting a few so that their overall span can be better seen before analyzing any of them in any depth

C01 Q63: Religious differences and fuel shortages lead to horrendous 21st C war.

Pestilences extinguished, the world becomes smaller
for a long time the lands will be inhabited peacefully
People will travel safely by sky, land, sea and wave
then wars will start uagain.

Les fleurs paSSes diminue le monde
Long temps la paix terres inhabitees
Sur marchera par ciel, terre, mer et onde
Puis de nouueau les guerres SuScitees

C01 Q87: Two very rich cities in Greece and Spain become engaged in a lengthy war.

Earthshaking fire from the center of the earth
will cause tremors around the New City
Two great rocks will war for a long time,
then Arethusa will redden a new river.

EnnoSigee feu du centre de terre
Fera trembler au tour de cite neufue terre
Deux grands rochiers long teps ferot la guerre terre
Puis ArethuSe rougira nouueau fleuue.

See my series on Nuclear events for more on the above verse.

C02 Q05: As the trumpet sounds for the final war a sub marine commander opens his orders.

Near the gates and within two cities
There will be two scourges unlike any as yet seen

Famine within plague, people put out by steel
Crying to the great immortal God for relief.

Au pres deSportes et dedans deux cites
Seront deux fleaux et oncques n'apperceau vn tel
Faim dedans peSte de fers hors gens boutes
Crier secours au grand Dieu immortel.

C04 Q43: The Isle of If becomes a military laboratory manufacturing chemicals.

Arms will be heard clashing in the sky
That very same year the divine ones enemies

They will want unjustly to debate the holy laws:
Through lightning and war the believers put to death .

Seront ouys au ciel les armes batter
Celuy au meSme les diuins ennemis
Voudront loix Sainctes iniuStement debatre

Par foudre et guerre bien croyans a mort mis.

C05 Q08: A Northern Califate implements biological warfare in the 21stC

There will be unleashed live fire, hidden death,
Horrible and frightful within the globes,

By night the city reduced to dust by the fleet,
The city afire, the enemy amenable.

Sera laiSSe le feu vif mort cache
Dedans les globes horrible eSpouuentable
De nuict a claSSe cite en poudre laSche
La cite a feu l'ennemy fauorable.

My interest in presenting these verses at this point is not to read into them meanings that make them portents of our time but to illustrate that Nostradamus interest lay in powerful new weapons carried through the sky that explode and deliver vast harm via disease and devastation.

These are surely the strange weapons mentioned via the anagrams in line four of C07 Q19 which say Strange weapons axtual actinindes (Aux citadins eStrange eSpouuantal). The meaning of the original words contains their relevance as it says strange and fearful for the citizens. Nostradamus' wars are about the new and dreadful impact of modern weapons on the citizens of the world. But for us these weapons don't represent something new to be feared as they are already known and the fear is already ours.

Hints on war from Nostradamus in his Epistle to Henry 1558

The majority of Nostradamus' Prophecies were published in two batches, the first in 1555 and the remainder in 1558. Each release was accompanied by a preface and in these documents Nostradamus seems to be attempting to leave vital clues that are not intended for the person to whom they are dedicated. The Epistle to Henry contains considerable insight into the topics I have been pursuing in this series so it is worth examining it here.

However there is a complication and that is the material has been deliberately scrambled and presented in a manner designed to be obscure. Earlier I have used Nostradamus' statements on his process to show how well he understood the nature and limitations of his ability to see the future. Accordingly his work addresses the great themes of change which he illustrates with examples of events and technology that are somewhat extraordinary. This pattern is apparent even amongst the scramble of the Epistle.

When he presented a summary of wars in his letter to Henry he needed to be mindful of the Inquisitorial dangers to which he exposed himself. He therefore scrambles the sequence of events and deliberately writes about them in a religious and astrological style in keeping with his time but there are indications that he was laughing at himself as he wrote in this style. The following statement by Nostradamus show these aspects quite clearly.

'By this discourse, Sire, I present these predictions almost with confusion especially as to when they will take place. Furthermore the chronological time which follows conforms very little if at all, with that which has already been set forth. Yet it was determined by astronomy and other sources, including the Holy Scriptures and thus could not err.'

'In the Epistle that some years ago I dedicated to my son Cesar Nostradamus I declared some points openly enough, without presage, But here Sire are several great and marvelous events which those to come after will see.'

The Epistle to Henry is most peculiar and holds two discourses covering similar events in each and presents two biblically-based calendars covering the same period but for which Nostradamus sets different time scales. The above statements about his intent are between the first and second discourse and these two discourses can present a consistent picture when stripped of the religious/astrologic shield Nostradamus said he used.

I believe the following extracts are consistent with my findings in his Prophecies and they yield vital clues to the story he tells. The basics are that there is a great war that marks out man's future and after long-lasting devastation the world will have no other major war for a thousand years.

The war is the result of a union between three powers, two in the North and one in the East, however it is a bitter, traitorous union and eventually the two from the North turn on the power from the East. The war results in pestilence and famine greater than has been known for two thousand years. One result is that the World's population drops by two-thirds shortly after the start of the war. Pregnant women are at most risk from this style of war. One of the other major consequences of the war is the elimination of institutionalized religion.

My aim is not to imply these events are true or false but to set out the nature of the visions that inspired Nostradamus to write his prophecies and so below I present the extracts that seem to me to be highly correlated to the verses in his Prophecies.

Extracts from the FIRST DISCOURSE.

'And the city of Achem will be surrounded and assaulted on all sides by a most powerful force of warriors. Their maritime forces will be weakened by the Westerners, and great desolations will fall upon the realm. Its greatest cities will be de-populated and those who enter will fall under the vengeance of the wrath of God.'

'Oh what a calamitous affliction will pregnant women bear at this time. For hereupon the principal Eastern chief will be vanquished by the Northerners and Westerners and most of his people stirred u, will be put to death, overwhelmed or scattered. His children, offspring of many women, will be imprisoned.'

'What great oppression will then fall upon the Princes and Governors of Kingdoms, especially those which will be maritime and Eastern, whose tongues will be intermingled with all others; the tongue of the Latin's and of the Arabs via the Phoenicians. And all these Eastern Kings will be chased, overturned and exterminated, but not all of them, at the hands of the Kings of Aquilon and because of the drawing near of our age through the three secretly united in the search for death, treacherously setting traps for each other. This renewed Triumvirate will last for seven years , and the renown of this sect will extend around the World. The sacrament of the holy and immaculate Water will be sustained.'

'Then the Lords of Aquilon , two in number, will be victorious over the Easterner and so great a noise and bellicose tumult will they make amongst them that all the East will tremble in terror of these brothers, yet not brothers, of Aquilon.'

'The chiefs of the Church will be backward in the love of God, and several of them will apostatize from the true faith. Of the three sects that which is in the middle, because of its own partisans, will be thrown a bit into decadence. The first one will be exterminated throughout all Europe and most of Africa by the third one..'

'Then will commence a persecution of the Churches the like of which was never seen. Meanwhile such a plague will arise that more than two-thirds of the World will be removed. One will be unable to ascertain the true owners of fields and houses, and weeds growing in the streets of cities will be higher than the knees. For the clergy there will be utter devastation.'

Extracts from SECOND DISCOURSE

'Once again Satan will be bound, universal peace will be established among men and the Church of Jesus Christ will be delivered from all tribulations, although the Azostains would like to mix in the dew and honey of malice and their pestilent seduction. This will be near the seventh millenary, when the sanctuary of Jesus Christ will no longer be trodden down by the infidels who come from Aquilon. The World will be approaching a great conflagration, although, according to my calculations in my prophecies the course of time will go much further.'

'During this astrologic account harmonized with the Holy Scriptures, the persecution of the Ecclesiastical folk will have its origin in the power of the Kings of Aquilon united with the Easterners. The persecution will last for eleven years or somewhat less, for then the King of Aquilon will fall. Thereupon the same thing will occur in the South, where for the space of three years the Church people will be persecuted even more fiercely through the apostatic seduction of one who will hold all the absolute power in the Church militant.'

'Then in the same year, and in those following, there will ensue the most horrible pestilence, made more stupendous by the famine which will have preceded it. Such great tribulations will never have occurred since the first foundation of the Christian Church. It will cover all Latin regions and will leave traces in some countries of the Spanish.'

'After that Antichrist will be the infernal Prince again. All the Kingdoms of Christianity will tremble even those of infidels. For the space of twenty-five years wars and battles will be more grievous and towns, cities , castles and all other edifices will be burned, desolated and destroyed, with great effusion of vestal blood, violations of married women and widows and sucking children dashed and broken against the walls of towns'

'After this has endured for a long time, there will be almost renewed another reign of Saturn and a golden age. ' Then a universal peace will commence between God and man and Satan will be bound for around a thousand years, and then all unbound.'

Dating the major War of the 21st Century

At the commencement of this series I stated that I would pursue Nostradamus' themes on war and show other modes he used to establish the dates. Having made a sound start on the first of these tasks it is now appropriate that I should integrate these findings with the dating methods to show another mode used by Nostradamus. These previous methods of establishing a unique date were based on the use of:

  1. Planets and the constellations in which they are found.
  2. The use of actual dates that are displaced by 458 years (adjustment for year when zero cipher invented).
  3. The date of the Polestar as it approaches the Pole
  4. The date of alignment of planets with the Polestar

By using these approaches I was able to establish the dating for the Geneva events as beginning in 2065CE; in particular those events relating to the dispersal of dangerous disease agents across Europe in the year following the incidents near Geneva. The verse I am about to present is about similar events and contains a dating methods that is completely different from those given above.

C4 Q67: The heretical lair in which is cloned the man of the richest tongue.

The year that Saturn and Mars are equally fiery,
The air very dry parched long trajectory

By secret fires a great place blazing from burning heat.
Little rain, warm wind, wars, incursions.

L'an que Saturne et Mars eSgaux combust
L'air fort Seiche longue traiection
Par feux Secrets d'ardeur grand lieu aduSt
Peu pluye vent chault guerres incursions.

Reading the first line and trying to make sense of it I realized that two planets being equally fiery could reasonably be taken to be the time when they are in conjunction with the Sun. This turns out to be not very often.

A close conjunction of Saturn, Mars and the Sun (less than two degrees separation) only occurs five times in the seven hundred years from 1500CE to 2200CE. The dates are 26th Jan 1555 (in Capricorn), 16th Aug 1624 (alongside Regulus in Leo), 1st Oct 1863(in Virgo), 15th Feb 1964 (in Capricorn), and 24th August 2066 (at Regulus in Leo).

It is this last date that it is of greatest interest to me since the events in the verse seem to be talking about the same incident as I have been tracking and this date uncovered here is precisely that found for the atmospheric dispersal by the other methods. The other date in the sequence that is of interest is 1555 which is the year Nostradamus' Prophecies were first officially published and it therefore represents a year zero for Nostradamus Calendar. It is therefore reasonable to add the method of an allusion to a close conjunction of three or more planets to the dating mechanisms used by Nostradamus. This is the method I use in some of my other papers.

In April 2018 I published the first of my charts that gather clusters often verses from Nostradamus' Prophecies and show how the links in their text and anagrams unite their story lines. The first of these is on the Causation events of 21st century wars. Its content illustrates all the principles and ideas presented in this paper and hence I include its chart below. All of the charts for war plus ones for other topics can be accessed through my page called Sefirot Index.
